First in a series of four meetings sponsored by the Latin American Studies Program, the Lecture Series Fund, and the Cuban Students Association. John Bailey, Director of Latin American Studies at Georgetown, introduces the panelists and topic of the meeting "Perspectives for a Cuban-American Rapprochement." Panelists are: Lynn Bender, Professor and Chairman of the Department of History and Political Science at Interamerican University of Puerto Rico, José Font, Cuban student in the Graduate School at American University, and James Theberge, Director of Hispanic and Latin American Studies at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. The panelists each summarize their views on Cuban-U.S. relations and discuss possibilities for change, if any, in current policies.
