Abstract
The economics of long term care for the aged and chronically ill is explored in terms of the limits of Medicare, Medicaid, and private health insurance. The growing need for such care has led to the necessity for developing new policies. A proposal is outlined for Medicare coverage of long term care and for the establishment of a program to coordinate long term care at the federal, state, and local levels. Emphasis is placed on maintaining a one-class system of care for all Medicare beneficiaries. (KIE abstract)
