Assessing the Value of Life
Lancet. 1982 May 29; 1(8283): 1236.
The cost-effectiveness of different choices facing medical policy makers was the focus of a British Medical Association conference, "The Cost of Life," held on 15-16 May 1982. Efficient use of resources through utilization of computer technology, assessment of the financial value of life, and patient perceptions of disease and disability were among the topics discussed by participants. The varied responses to the issue of valuing life revealed a lack of consensus on health care concepts and decision making that has implications for public policy. (KIE abstract)
