Some Potential Hazards of Unplanned Expansion of Private Health Insurance in Britain
Torrens, Paul R.
Lancet. 1982 Jan 2; 1(8262): 29-31.
The expansion of private health insurance in Great Britain is discussed as a means of generating alternative funding for health services. Five specific areas of risk are outlined: fragmentation of health planning, development of a two class system, diversion of health personnel from public services, rise in costs, and emphasis on technology at the expense of patient care. Remedies are suggested to ameliorate these potential problems. (KIE abstract)
