Abstract
Proposed legislation in Great Britain regarding consent to treatment by the institutionalized mentally ill is examined. The requirement of obtaining a second opinion for specific kinds of treatment is discussed, and the results of an examination of psychiatric records are reported. The examination showed that so many second opinions would be required that there would be difficulty in implementing the proposed law. (KIE abstract)
