US Looks to Biological Weapons; Military Takes New Interest in DNA Devices
Nature. 1982 Jun 24; 297(5868): 615-616.
Interest in recombinant DNA research by the Army suggests plans to develop biological weapons. Reports of the Army's involvement in this research, and the fears of some investigators that its interest includes possible offensive uses of recombinant DNA technology, are examined. An amendment to the government's DNA guidelines has been proposed which would prevent the development of biological weapons by molecular cloning. (KIE abstract)
