Biological Ethics: Nakasone Takes the Lead
Nature. 1984 Mar 29; 308(5958): 395.
The first international conference on problems generated by rapid advances in the life sciences took place in Tokyo in March 1984. The participants consisted of a committee of 19 scientists, theologians, and philosophers from the Western industrial nations and Japan. They reached general conclusions, to be presented to the London summit conference of heads of state in July, concerning the need for public discussion of bioethical issues. The committee will meet next year in France, perhaps to focus on specific problem areas and to include representatives from outside the seven summit nations. (KIE abstract)
