Guidelines for Nursing Homes Raise Some Questions
Hastings Center Report. 1983 Dec; 13(6): 3.
In June 1983, a task force appointed by the Minnesota Board on Aging issued a set of guidelines designed to improve the process of making decisions about when to provide "supportive care," i.e., "care and treatment to preserve comfort, hygiene and dignity, but not to prolong life," to patients in Minnesota nursing homes. The guidelines have been criticized by some groups for not doing enough to protect the interests of patients. (KIE abstract)
