A working group interim report on in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer was approved by the Council of the British Medical Association on 4 May 1983. The debate prior to approval is summarized here. Participants expressed concern over the ethical aspects of experimenting with excess embryos, and the involvement of nonmedical workers in in vitro fertilization procedures.
