Abstract
Final federal regulations concerning the participation of children in research went into effect on 6 June, nearly five years after they were initially proposed. Parental consent, "assent" by the minor, and review by an institutional ethics committee are required. Exempted from review is much social, economic, and educational research. Still to be acted upon are the Commission's recommendations relating to research on the institutionalized mentally disabled. (KIE abstract)
