Annual Report of Council, 1982-1983. Appendix II: Medical Effects of Nuclear War: Report by Board of Science and Education
BMJ (British Medical Journal). 1983 Mar 12; 286(6368): 910-912.
The report of the British Medical Association's board of science and education on the medical effects of nuclear war is summarized, with a note that the full report will be debated at the June 1983 annual meeting. Problems with current civil defense plans are identified and the difficulties survivors would face in obtaining water, food, and medical care are outlined. The authors of the report conclude that a complete breakdown of medical services in the United Kingdom would be the inevitable result of a nuclear attack. (KIE abstract)
