The Position of the Christian Science Church
Talbot, Nathan A.
New England Journal of Medicine. 1983 Dec 29; 309(26): 1641-1644.
The philosophy and practices of Christian Science with respect to the healing of human illness are described by a senior church official. Illness is considered to be a product of a limited and distorted view of the spiritual nature and capacity of man, capable of being overcome by prayer. Talbot maintains that Christian Science healing and conventional medical treatment ought not to be pursued simultaneously, that church members are free to choose between them, and that published testimonials have proven the efficacy of the Christian Science approach. He argues that the state can adequately protect children without intruding on parental rights or abridging religious freedom. (KIE abstract)
