AIDS: Interim Guidelines
Lancet. 1985 Jan 26; 1(8422): 234.
Britain's Advisory Committee on Dangerous Pathogens (ACDP) has published interim guidelines to safeguard the health and safety of workers who come in contact with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) patients and those who work with the HTLV-III virus in clinical and research laboratories. The guidelines recommend that all AIDS patients be counseled on the risks of transmitting infection and that all staff be made aware of the risks. Detailed recommendations are presented for the handling of protective clothing and other contaminated items. A written protocol for work with HTLV-III virus should be followed, and laboratory procedures should be conducted in a containment-level-3 facility. (KIE abstract)
