Life Support: One Firm Decision
Lancet. 1985 Jan 19; 1(8421): 157.
The California Court of Appeals decision in the case of William Bartling, a 70-year-old chronically ill patient who wanted physicians to disconnect his life-support systems, is cited as a clear step in the direction of respecting the patient's wishes in such matters. In a brief final paragraph, Governor Mario Cuomo of New York is commended for setting up a state commission to address pressing bioethical issues. (KIE abstract)
