Recent opinion polls of the public, hospital administrators, health insurance executives, corporate and labor union purchasers of medical care, and practicing physicians show that a significant number believe that fundamental changes are needed in the health care system. Only leaders of organized medicine believe that minor changes are all that are necessary. Iglehart summarizes the conclusions of a Harris survey designed to assess the attitudes of American physicians on the subject of health care costs and their containment, and contrasts these with the findings of earlier surveys. He concludes by questioning the impact of opinion surveys on public and corporate health policies. (KIE abstract)en
