Australian IVF: Orphan Embryos
Nature. 1984 Jun 28; 309(5971): 738.
The death of Mrs. Elsa Rios and her husband has thrown into legal limbo the status of two frozen embryos produced through in vitro fertilization of Mrs. Rios using donor sperm. Questions of custody and inheritance, as well as the survival of the embryos, are under consideration in Australia, where the procedure took place and the embryos are stored. No decision will be made until the report of the Waller Committee on in vitro fertilization appears in August. (KIE abstract)
