The author identifies himself as a homosexual with antibodies to human T cell lymphotropic virus III (HTLV-III). He describes his reactions to learning that he might develop acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) and to the counseling sessions which helped him cope. While he does not advocate compulsory testing of homosexuals for antibody to HTLV-III, he recommends voluntary participation provided that counseling is immediately available for those who test positive.
