Abstract
The Minneapolis Emergency Medical Services Council has devised community standards allowing paramedics and emergency physicians to honor orders from nursing home medical records not to perform resuscitation or endotracheal intubation. Physicians must update such directives every two years, so as to reflect the patient's current condition and desires. Oral directives from nonphysician staff or telephoned physician directives are not considered to be valid. (KIE abstract)
