Abstract
The screening of donors, laboratory procedures, and nutritional supplementation used in a blood donation program at a camp for Khmer refugees along the Thai-Kampuchean border are described. Results of the study of the program are presented, showing the mean and range of hematocrit values in 145 blood donors, and ethical questions are discussed about the appropriateness of setting up a blood transfusion service and its priority in relation to other health services within a refugee population.
