Ensuring Integrity in Biomedical Publication
Woolf, Patricia K.
JAMA. 1987 Dec 18; 258(23): 3424-3427.
The author discusses the role of the editors of scientific journals in ensuring the high quality and integrity of the research they publish. Woolf urges editorial leadership in such areas as defining and enforcing standards for responsible authorship; establishing policies for data retention and availability, for handling allegations of fraud, and for publishing retractions; and enforcing peer review. She concludes that editors can be instrumental in alerting authors to questionable data and research practices. (KIE abstract)
