Consultation on International Collaborative Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) Research

A group of experts, including representatives from the PHS, academic institutions, private organizations, the Department of State and researchers from developing countries met in Annapolis, Maryland, September 24-26, 1990. The objectives of the two-and-one-half day Consultation on International Collaborative HIV Research were to: -- review existing ethical standards and documents; -- exchange practical experiences resulting from the application of these standards in on-going research; and -- develop a basic consensus regarding future PHS approaches or policies. This report provides background information on the issues surrounding international collaborative HIV research and presents the consensus recommendations from the consultation.
