Ethical Counseling for House Staff Considering a Strike
Zawacki, Bruce E.
Journal of Clinical Ethics. 1991 Spring; 2(1): 10-15.
...To develop an effective approach for counseling house-staff members...we reviewed and classified the models of ethical reasoning about strikes recommended in contemporary bioethics literature. We then gathered information about how, in fact, house-staff members reason ethically about strikes in hypothetical and actual situations, and we found their approaches to differ substantially from published recommendations. After considering the reasons for this gap, we identified an approach to ethical reasoning about such strikes that not only can be appreciated by residents but also is capable of reducing anomaly and enhancing dialogue between them and other parties to resolve strike conflict.
