Reflections of a Whistle-Blower
Nature. 1992 Jun 11; 357(6378): 434-436.
Scientific fraud, much in the news recently, is not a new phenomenon. What follows is a personal account of a particular case. Scientific research is a highly competitive process, and, unfortunately, not all research is honestly carried out. This is the story of a man of forceful personality who moved from one academic job to another. It is a story of failure to check on his previous appointments and failure honestly and thoroughly to assess the merit of his scientific work....I wish to draw attention to the problems that, in my own personal experience, can be associated with 'whistle-blowing'.
