Autonomy and Beneficence in the Family: Describing the Family Covenant
Doukas, David J.
Journal of Clinical Ethics. 1991 Fall; 2(3): 145-148.
The family covenant is a description of the dynamic relationship between the family and the physician. Within the initial agreement, the family covenant spells out the obligations of all parties to give and receive respect and beneficial care within the realm of medical practice. With the accumulation of trust over time beyond this initial agreement, the family covenant better equips all parties to render and understand respectful and beneficial care in future circumstances.
