...In the "Limitation of Medical Care: An Ethnographic Analysis," ethnographic analysis is quite effective in illuminating the flaws in the resuscitation discussions two resident physicians had with patients and families. It identified that guidelines for such discussions would be helpful for physicians, especially those who are still in training. In response, I have proposed guidelines for such discussions that aim to avoid the mistakes the authors' ethnographic analysis captured. Further refinements of these proposed guidelines might come from ethnographic analysis of cases in which physicians discuss resuscitation status with patients while following these guidelines.
