This annotated bibliography is intended to sift through the growing literature on this topic and provide a convenient reference for students of this debate. We hope that this collection and summary of the contemporary discourse on PAS [physician-assisted suicide] and VAE [voluntary active euthanasia] will help the reader clarify the arguments that inform this topic. In preparing this bibliography, we attempted to identify articles written by some of the more thoughtful commentators on this subject. After searching the literature, we selected articles that were recently published, based on how frequently they had been cited and on how cogently they were argued. The authors come from a variety of fields and offer differing perspectives. What follows is a bibliography of 24 essential articles, which was orginally compiled as educational material for the ethics committee of the New York Hospital.
Active Euthanasia; Allowing to Die; Assisted Suicide; Autonomy; Consent; Ethics; Euthanasia; Hospices; International Aspects; Killing; Legal Aspects; Life; Literature; Moral Obligations; Pain; Palliative Care; Physician's Role; Physicians; Public Policy; Religious Ethics; Right to Die; Social Impact; Students; Suffering; Suicide; Terminal Care; Terminally Ill; Third Party Consent; Value of Life; Voluntary Euthanasia; Wedge Argument;
