Bioethics and the HMO
HEC (HealthCare Ethics Committee) Forum. 1997 Dec; 9(4): 355-364.
The expanded role of managed healthcare has raised numerous ethical questions for which there has been no previous appropriate or convenient venue for discussion. Contrary to what many think, the relevant ethical questions are not the same as those raised by healthcare reform. To serve as a forum for dialogue and recommendations, in 1991 Community Health Plan (CHP) established a unique health maintenance organization (HMO) planwide ethics committee to address sub-acute and out-patient oriented issues. It is called the CHP Ethical Issues Committee (CHPEIC).
