How should mothers infected with AIDS relate to their babies? This is the main question handled by this paper which was read during the symposium on AIDS and its social problems held by the Islamic Organization for Medical Sciences (IOMS) in Kuwait during the period 6-8 December 1993. After giving some ethical advice to women in order to help them avoid being infected with AIDS, the paper elaborates on the ethical issues relevant to pregnancy, breastfeeding and guardianship for mothers infected with AIDS. The author argues that female AIDS patients should use contraceptives and in case of pregnancy they are permitted to have an abortion within the first 40 days of pregnancy. If the baby was born, the mother should not breast feed the baby and she loses her right to be the baby?s guardian.
