The religio-ethical aspects related to marriage and AIDS represent the main focus of this paper which was submitted to the symposium on AIDS and its social problems held by the Islamic Organization for Medical Sciences (IOMS) in Kuwait during the period 6-8 December 1993. The author argues that marriage can be an effective preventive measure against AIDS because it will satisfy sexual desires which, if not properly satisfied, usually lead to illicit sexual relations which are one of the main mechanisms of transmitting AIDS. On the other hand, marriage can be a means of transmitting AIDS if one of the couple is HIV positive. That is why marriage should be prohibited for AIDS patients.
