Elaborating on the Islamic vision about human skin banking was one of the two main topics discussed in the symposium held by the Islamic Organization for Medical Sciences (IOMS) in Kuwait during the period 22-24 May 1995. Both biomedical scientists and religious scholars submitted papers and participated in the discussions on the nature of human skin banks and the Islamic perspectives on using skin grafts from living or dead human or animal sources and under which conditions such skin grafting would be permissible.
