Abstract
This paper was submitted to the symposium held by the Islamic Organization for Medical Sciences (IOMS) during the period 24-25 November 1988 in Cairo on the ethical dimensions of health policy from an Islamic perspective. The first part of this paper outlines the general philosophical and ethical attitudes towards life and death. The other part focuses on the understanding of life and death as portrayed by classical Muslim philosophers and religious scholars.
