The Islamic juristic rulings with pertinence to food additives, chemical transformation of substances which change their status, within Islamic jurisprudence, from impurity to purity and the substances whose partaking would nullify the validity of fasting in Islam were all focal points in the symposium held by the Islamic Organization for Medical Sciences (IOMS)in Morocco during the period 14-17 June 1997. The papers and discussions on these issues were published in a separate volume which was appended by the final recommendations.
