Desperate Hours (2001)
This documentary focuses on Turkey's role in rescuing Turkish and European Jews from Nazi persecution. Several other related stores and events are recounted, including: Yishuv-Jews from Pre-State Israel rescued Jews using Turkey as a based of operations and safety; an attempt to trade one million Jews for 10,000 trucks in the 1944 "Jews for Sale" deal; the Struma Refugee Ship, which sank with 760 Jewish refugees aboard; Monsignor Roncalli (later Pope John XXIII) and his Apostolic Delegate in Istanbul worked with delegates of the Yishuv; Monsignor Roncalli later changed Catholic teaching about Jews.
